Despite the cold weather, snow, and wind, more than 40 runners took part in the open trainings around Veliko Tarnovo during the weekend. These events were held on neighbouring and similar terrains to the ones that will be used during ‘Three Hills Cup’. The Saturday training was a challenging course through the steep, partly overgrown, and very stony slopes south of ‘St. Transfiguration’ monastery. Elite runners and those who chose ‘Open Long’ course had to navigate on 3-4mm corridor. Even though the sun was shining, the temperature didn’t exceed -4.
The afternoon training was south of the area for knock-out sprint on a map named ‘Varusha – South’. The narrow roads in combination with the twisting courses were the talk of the day once everyone finished.
Up to 10cm of snow welcomed the competitors on the hills around Shemshevo on Sunday morning. The terrain is moderately steep, partly overgrown, with a lot of paths and tracks, and the southern slopes are semi-open areas with high bushes and many rocks. Thanks to our frinds from Compass Cross Rousse live results were available here. And livezone.bg provided live tracking for some of the runners.
After a short break, the event moved to map ‘Pishmana’, where artificial fences surprised the runners as soon as they departed toward 1st control. You can see the results here.
The next planned events before ‘Three Hills’ Cup and ‘With Map Through Tarnovgrad’ are 5 trainings in 3 days – 23rd (Tuesday) to 25th (Thursday) March and will be held on terrains similar to the competition areas. You can learn more about the training camp here.
